Most people think of Memorial Day as the three day weekend that marks the beginning of summer. They think of the beach, barbecued burgers, and ice cold beer. I don’t have anything against those things, it’s just that the true meaning of Memorial Day extends well beyond the start of summer fun.
My family came here in 1964 to escape communism in Europe and I was raised to respect the opportunity the USA provided us as a family. Patriotism, was always a part of my life, and it’s why the Elite logo has a patriotic theme, to celebrate the flag and all things American.
The origins of this holiday are obscured by myth but it follows an ancient tradition of decorating fallen soldiers’ graves. Memorial day is celebrated on the last Monday of May and is marked across the US by parades and ceremonies honoring those of the US military who have died while serving.
Memorial day has special meaning for the construction industry in general as well. Close to 16% of all veterans enter the construction industry. Historically the work ethic and organizational strengths that the military fosters have translated well to this profession.
Along with being the unofficial start of summer, we hope that you and yours stay safe and healthy and take a moment to appreciate all that we have, and honor those who have died to make it so.
